The DirecTV HR34 and RVU protocol looks like it’s going to be great for those who can afford to completely overhaul their current systems. I don’t know about you, but I’m happy with my current HDTV setup. The Samsung TV shown here looks great, but the price is way too high for my blood. As far as RVU goes, I’d prefer to use MoCA technology instead. I know that DISH Network just announced the Hopper and Joey system at CES and from what I’ve heard I think it is going to give the HR34 from DirecTV a huge challenge, and it uses MoCA. The Hopper has over 250 hours of HD recordings, so you won’t have to worry about having space for recordings. The Joeys can access any recorded show from the Hopper in any room you put them in. Plus, with Primetime Anytime feature enabled, I can record up to 6 live HD channels at once. Seeing a private employee demonstration at DISH I’m really excited about getting one when they release and installed in my own home.

Time Warner customers can now watch live TV on their iPhone and from my experience being able to watch live TV on my phone, it comes in handy. I think the Time Warner app is limited though, since you are unable to stream outside of your home, and you can’t even stream your DVR recordings! I guess it’s expected that I’m not as impressed as everyone else is, since I’ve gotten used to using the DISH Remote Access app from DISH. Unlike the Time Warner app, I can stream any channel that I subscribe to, as well as any show or movie I have recorded on my DVR. Since working for DISH, I’ve been using the app for quite some time on both my iPhone and iPad, and not only does it let me stream live TV, I can also stream anywhere I want. So while I think the Time Warner app has a great feature available, it doesn’t compare to the DISH Remote Access app!

196 channels is a huge improvement over the 30 or 40 channels initially offered. I wonder if that is all the channels Time Warner offers or if there are some channels still being restricted. This could be a cool app if it weren’t for the restrictions they placed, like the requirement to remain on the home network in order to stream. How can they call that TV Everywhere? I think they still have a while to catch up with DISH. I can view channel listings and set DVR timers with their DISH Remote Access App and I have access to a ton of Video On Demand from HBO and other movie channels on my iPad. When I added a Sling Adapter to my DVR I gained the ability to use the app to stream all of my live channels along with any DVR content to almost any device. Since I can use any 3g, 4g or WIFI network DISH can justifiably call that TV Everywhere. I get the most use out of it when I have to work those late night shifts here at the DISH call center, things can get pretty slow and its nice to have something to watch.

Sysacom has a similar product to the exception that it talk to a database server and customer access their data through our web server, http://www.totalsensingsolution.com. You can see months of data either using graph or tables and get alarmed by email or SMS when preset limits are crosses.

There may be other purposes and reasons for dark matter to exist. It may have had a completely different role, perhaps fundamental in the birth of the Universe, not just in the formation of galaxies...

My theory on the birth of the Universe - as an emergent phenomenon from self-organizing dark matter -

I'm eager to get DISH Network's new receiver called the Hopper. It’s a multi-room DVR that comes with three client boxes called Joeys and has full DVR functions in all four rooms. The Hopper comes with a remote locater so looking around for a remote will be a thing of the past and its compatible with the sling adapter. This DVR has a TruVolume feature that prevents customers from having to deal with annoying volume fluctuations. You can also stream thousands of Blockbuster movies to your Hopper and record up to 250 hours of HD recording time. This DVR has a 2 terabyte hard drive and it’s the fastest satellite receiver with a 750 MHZ processor making this the fastest satellite receiver out. A co-worker at DISH mentioned to me that you can record six shows at once during primetime hours with its new feature called PrimeTime Anytime. This allows you to activate your Hopper to self record your four major networks in HD (CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC) everyday in 8 days increments during prime time hours. I will be first in line to get the Hopper when it comes out.

The HR34 sounds cool, but I would prefer the Hopper from DISH because it way more in features, and functionality. One example is that it has a feature called PrimeTime Anytime which basically records all four major networks so you’ll never have to worry about missing your favorite shows. Plus, it doesn’t take away from the 250 hours of HD recording available, so you can be recording up to 6 HD shows at once! If more space is needed, there is always the option to attach an external hard drive to expand the memory instead of replacing it. I have had the chance to play with a Hopper and some Joeys here at DISH where I work, and it is one cool receiver. DirecTV’s receiver has a few good features, but it falls short of the Hopper.

The good thing that will come out of this is the ability to try some thing at no cost, see if it works as well as a year down the line know if you’ve got a money stream to keep the doors open… sometimes that 9 month of “free” can be the tipping point between faltering as well as hitting your stride

Bad UI?

Nope. Imagine the fury heard around the world when folks slept through alarms because they either forgot their phone was silenced, or they muted them accidently.

You're a stupid ass.
